Mary Margaret has a B.S. degree in Accounting from Fairfield University. She worked for 10 years as an accountant in broadcasting, consumer products, non-profit, and a startup. In recent years, she has held roles in technology including those of a project manager and business analyst.
While in college she worked as a bookkeeper for a non-profit performing her duties the old-fashioned way – a manual ledger book, each page representing a different account! She paid bills, prepared invoices, made bank deposits and reconciled all activities at the end of the month. After college, Mary Margaret was a general ledger accountant who performed monthly closes and analysis, year end inventory analysis and audit preparation. She did it all from journal entries to bank reconciliations.
She first made her crossover into technology by working at Hyperion Solutions and later at a reseller of Lawson Software. Both companies allowed her to leverage her accounting background while growing her natural propensity for utilizing software applications to streamline business processes. Her technology path eventually led Mary Margaret to roles like those of the Business Analyst (gatherer of business requirements for application improvements) and Project Manager (the individual responsible for making sure that technology improvements happen on time, on budget and with great quality – otherwise known as ‘Herder of cats’).
